Cannabis Stem Tea

Most normal teas are created using a combination of leaves and stems from familiar plants. Lavender tea, for example, is a tea known for its floral smell and taste, while delivering a calming effect as it is drank. Cannabis stem tea is a great way to use up old stems without throwing them away. It is one of the best uses for the stems since it gives you a high far quicker than other methods—it’s even faster than smoking the buds. Many people choose to drink cannabis tea over smoking because of its quick acting qualities and potent THC content. It should be noted however, that because it is so potent, that it should be drank slowly and in small amounts unless you plan on staying home for the night.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your tea:

  • ¼ – ½ cup of marijuana stems (adding more is optional but start out with this amount)
  • 3 cups of water
  • Additional tea bag for flavor
  • Coffee filter
  • 2-3 tbsp of alcohol, or ½ cup milk, or ½ tbsp of butter (only one of these choices)

Begin by breaking up the stems with your hands, this will make handling them easier and it will release some of the THC qualities trapped on the inside. Grab a teapot and pour in your water and your milk/butter. Most people use alcohol to increase the potency of the stems, but it is not necessary—if you go this route, add it after the water is brought to a boil, so it doesn’t evaporate. Then add your stems to the boil for 7 to 10 minutes, stirring consistently. If you are adding more elements than just the stems, you can add them here too. Don’t forget to add the tea bag too for a less-cannabis tasting tea. One you’ve steeped everything, remove the tea bag, and secure the coffee filter to the teapot (rubber bands maybe?) and you’re good to start drinking.
