How to Make Cannabutter: Cannabis-Infused Butter

Edibles provide the same desirable effects as other cannabis products while being more versatile and lasting longer. Cannabutter, cannabis-infused butter, delivers on all those fronts and more. Here’s how you can make it yourself in two basic steps.

Step 1- Decarbing (Decarboxylation)

Start by preheating your oven to 220 degrees Fahrenheit.

Take 0.5 ounces of cannabis and break it apart with scissors or your hand until it’s a fine consistency.

Spread the fine cannabis across a sheet pan and cook it in the oven on the center rack for anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour, depending on how recently it’s been harvested. Shake it around every ten minutes so it doesn’t burn. You’ll know it’s done when the color is a deep green with a brown tint.

This step activates the cannabinoids in the cannabis which is crucial to achieving the desired effects.

Step 2- Infuse

Add a cup and a half of water and 8 ounces of melted butter to a medium saucepan at low heat.

Add in the cannabis, stir, and cover with the pan lid. You should let this simmer for about four hours, stirring twice an hour to stop the butter from burning. When that time is up, strain the mixture and pour the butter into your container to cool.

Now you have cannabutter that will last up to six months! Enjoy!
